Pregnancy and Fibromyalgia

7:22 PM 0 Comments
Not many people know about the effect of fibromyalgia during pregnancy. In fact, there seems to be contradictory facts between researchers and doctors as to the results of pregnancy on the syndrome. It is generally considered that more fibromyalgia research must be carried out in order to get an accurate concept of what happens to fibromyalgia disorder during pregnancy.

In 1997, a study on fibromyalgia and pregnancy was conducted in Norway. A very few number of pregnant women were involved in this research, some with fibromyalgia and some without. The study found that a vast number of those pregnant women while suffering from fibromyalgia reported a radical boost in the sternness of their symptoms. The third trimester was by far the most difficult during their pregnancy phase, with symptoms increasing frequently. Most of the women in the study said that their symptoms stay on more severe than normal until about three months after they had delivered. They also had a more frequency of post-partum depression. On a positive note, the babies born to fibromyalgia-affected women were all healthy, with normal weight and without any deformities.

Many health physicians however, oppose the concept that pregnancy makes fibromyalgia worse. Doctors who treat fibromyalgic patients actually disagree that pregnancy helps to reduce and even eradicate the symptoms caused by fibromyalgia. According to the reports many pregnant women felt better after their initial vomiting and morning sickness. It is hypothesized that this could be due to the ovarian hormone relaxin. During pregnancy, the quantity of relaxin in a woman’s body raise up to 10 times. It has also been established that relaxin supplements help to relieve symptoms in many women with fibromyalgia.

Unless patients have acute complications, most women feel that pregnancy can be pursuable with fibromyalgia. Women with fibromyalgia should keep these things in their mind:
  •      Women should try to plan her pregnancy at least a year ahead of time, so that the lost strength can be build-up.
  •      Women should reduce the stress of their life as much as possible.
  •      They should conceive when the symptoms are comparatively less severe. Conceiving should be avoided during a higher symptom.
Regular consultation with doctors are highly recommended.

Summary:
Not many people know about the effect of fibromyalgia during pregnancy. In fact, there seems to be contradictory facts between researchers and doctors as to the results of pregnancy on the syndrome. Morning Sickness Survival Tips

2:24 PM 0 Comments
"Just eat a few saltines and you'll be ok".

I don't know about you, but as someone who suffered with prolonged, severe morning sickness (which I affectionately call morning noon and night sickness), when I hear someone say this, I just want to slug them!

If you're suffering with nausea and vomiting of pregnancy, you're not alone. Most women experience it to some degree during their first trimester. If you're one of the unfortunate few whose symptoms last longer than the typical 6-12 weeks, I empathize. I've had the same experience with all 4 of my pregnancies. I have learned a few things that helped however, and I hope you can get some relief with these tips.

1) Getting your blood sugar regulated is priority #1.

One theory about why morning sickness is worse in the morning (and for some women only occurs then) is because when you wake up from sleep, you have low blood sugar. For some pregnant woman, going 8 hours without food is just a bad idea.

You might find it helpful to eat a high protein snack before bed, and even to eat a bite each time you get up in the night to go to the bathroom. (Which in the beginning may be quite frequent!)

Personally, I found that what I did first thing in the morning was of paramount importance. I had to eat a few bites of food *while still lying down*. So I either put some food on a plate beside my bed or asked my husband bring me a snack first thing in the morning.

Don't jump out of bed. Eat your snack slowly and lie still for a few minutes afterwards. Then slowly get up and immediately go to the kitchen and eat another bite. Again, emphasize protein.

2) Avoid foods that cause rapid blood sugar shifts.

Fruit juice, sugary snacks, processed cereal (the kind that comes in a box), anything made with white flour, etc...these types of foods cause your blood sugar to rapidly rise then come crashing down, triggering nausea and vomiting. Eat protein foods and whole foods.

Meat, cheese, yogurt (be careful here- try plain yogurt with frozen berries mixed in. Most yogurt has way too much sugar in it.), eggs, nuts, nut butters, veggies, and whole grains should be your staples.

Even if eating doesn't appeal to you, coaxing yourself to eat a little bit of a protein food every 2 hours will help prevent vomiting. Don't leave the house without carrying a snack with you.

3) If drinking water makes you sicker, try these alternatives.

It's very important that you stay hydrated. You're going to need extra fluids to support the pregnancy, but many women find that drinking water makes them more nauseated. Some things to try:

Smoothies made with fruit, ice and plain yogurt or kefir. The tangy flavor of these two dairy products really hit the spot for me. They also sneak in some extra protein.

Water served VERY cold with a squeeze of lemon or lime.
Carbonated water with a small amount of fruit juice for flavor.

Weakly brewed iced or hot tea with lemon. The small bit of caffeine won't harm your baby. Something about the bitter tannins in tea may help ease nausea.

     Citrus fruits and melons.

4) Avoid nausea triggers as much as possible.

Your nose is on hyperdrive during early pregnancy!

Stinky smells like poopy diapers, kitchen trash, even morning breath may be impossible to totally avoid, but try your best to avoid smelly situations.

Have someone else take out the trash. Have hubby change your toddler when he's home. It's the least he can do!

And don't be shy about telling someone who has bad breath, noxious perfume or cigarette smells on them that you're in a delicate condition and need some fresh air. During my pregnancies, my husband had to switch to unscented deodorant and soap, otherwise I couldn't hug him!

If cooking smells make you ill, take a break from your usual garlic and onion specialties. Don't be a martyr. Hubby will understand that you can't make his favorite sausage and peppers for a while.

Prepare meals that won't stink up the kitchen. Green main dish salads with cold, cut up chicken, steak or hard boiled eggs. Sandwiches are good too.

5) Try Aromatherapy

Put a couple of drops of lavender, mint or lemon essential oil (these oils are generally regarded as safe to use during pregnancy) on cotton balls and keep these in various locations... the kitchen, bathroom, your purse and in the car. Take a whiff when you feel sick. Put a few drops on your pillow.

6) Take it easy- but don't forget exercise

I know, I know... exercise is the last thing you want to do when you can hardly get your face out of the toilet! But if you force yourself to take even a ten minute walk outside every day, it WILL help.

But do try to take it easy, avoid stress as much as possible, and rest as much as you can. You're doing the very important job of growing a baby. Explain to your other children why you're feeling poorly and that it won't last forever. Call in favors and ask friends to come over to play with your 2 year old for an hour so you can sleep, or ask them to cook extra when they make dinner tonight and bring you a dish.

When you feel a bout of nausea coming on, try to lay down for a few minutes in a dark room with your eyes closed. Sometimes if you do this the episode will pass.

7) Focus on the positive

Sometimes when you're so miserable it's easy to forget what's making you so sick! Remember that statistically, women who experience nausea and vomiting of pregnancy are more likely to carry the pregnancy to term.

One of my midwives told me that she always worries when a Mom comes in for her first prenatal feeling wonderful...the chances of her miscarrying are higher.

So rejoice in your strong hormones! Read pregnancy magazines, birth stories on the Internet, look through maternity clothing catalogs, do whatever you need to do to cheer yourself up and get yourself in the mood for a new baby.

8) More Misc. Tips

Try eating candied ginger or sipping ginger tea. I found ginger in capsules to be too harsh and they hurt terribly if they did come back up.

Brewer's yeast capsules work for some Moms.
Try sucking on lemon slices when you're feeling a wave of nausea.
Sip mint tea or chew mint gum to help dry up excessive salivating that may trigger nausea.

If you have trouble brushing your teeth due to an overactive gag reflex, switch to using baking soda for awhile. The foaming of regular toothpaste may be too much. And brush your teeth in shifts if you need to... first the top teeth, then a few minutes later the bottom teeth, then your tongue, etc.

Avoid getting overheated or chilled. Extremes in temperature can trigger vomiting.

Try Sea-Bands, available at large drug stores. They're designed for motion sickness but helps some pregnant women.

Go with your cravings, within reason. For some reason, pizza and Taco Bell always hit the spot during my pregnancies.

Clean the toilet daily, even if it's the only household chore you can do right now. Better yet, have someone else do it. And wear your hair up for awhile. If you're going to be throwing up, at least you will have your hair out of the way and a clean bowl to hug!

Summary:
"Just eat a few saltines and you'll be ok".

Is Your Pregnancy Exercise SAFE for baby?

2:18 PM 0 Comments
ere is no doubt thatpregnancy exerciseis both excellent and necessary for you to do now that your looking out for two (unless your doctor has told you otherwise!).
Exercise will help you reduce your pregnancy related symptoms, manage your weight gain and speed up your post-partum recovery time. However, you MUST make sure that whatever you choose to do is SAFE for both you and your baby.

I exercised during my pregnancy, but I only chose to do exercises that I enjoyed doing - like walking and swimming. I particularly liked swimming because it was non-weight bearing and it cooled me off (which was a huge help for my pregnancy-related overheating!).

For those of you who are looking for more than just swimming or walking, I've picked 5 questions from my subscribers that look at various pregnancy exercises and ask the question, "Is this exercise SAFE?".

(Please note: all of the following opinions assume that the subscriber has been given the OK to exercise by her family practitioner.)

Subscriber Question #1:
"As a fitness instructor, how long I can continue doing high impact movements?"
My Opinion:
I'm assuming that because you're a fitness instructor you're in good shape, which would make it okay to continue exercising during your pregnancy at a moderate intensity level - around 70-75% of your maximum heart rate (if you're not in good shape, aim for around 60-65%!).

However, I'm not a big fan of high impact movements (i.e. jumping, step class etc.) because they can be jarring on your joints (which are already carrying a big enough load). Also, your center of gravity changes, which means you're going to be much more likely to fall or injure yourself.

So, I recommend sticking to low-impact exercises, like swimming. You'll find it better on your body - especially when your tummy starts getting bigger!

Subscriber Question # 2:
"Now that I'm pregnant, can I run up and down my stairs for exercise?"

My Opinion:
Good question! Although most of us have stairs in our house or office, I wouldn't recommend it for a workout. Running up and down stairs umpteen times may seem like an easy pregnancy exercise to do, but it's really quite strenuous. You have to be in very good shape - believe me, I used to get my elite athletes to do this!

Choosing stairs instead of an elevator, however, is not a bad idea if you're just looking for a little activity here and there (just be close to the railing in case you lose your balance!).
For a more suitable workout, put on your running shoes and go for a brisk walk.

Subscriber Question #3:
"Can I do abdominal work to keep control over my love handles (fat on the sides of my tummy)?"

My Opinion:
I know you're not going to like my answer, but now's NOT the time to worry about your love handles. Although certain experts say that abdominal work is safe during pregnancy, I wouldn't recommend it. Rather concentrate on core strengthening exercises (including training your transverse abdominal muscles - the deep ones!) and wait until after your baby is born to work on toning your tummy!

Now that doesn't mean that you should let go of yourself, sit on the couch and eat the house - no way! It means take care of yourself, keep active, eat healthy foods - and you'll have LESS of a job taking it off after you deliver.

Subscriber Question #4:
"I'm very worried about putting on excess weight, can I still do my 1-hour a day workout consisting of Body Combat, Body Attack, dancing and running?"

My Opinion:
The general rule regarding exercise during pregnancy is that you CAN continue to do what you were doing pre-pregnancy as long as you lower your intensity to a moderate level.
I'm not quite sure what Body Combat and Body Attack classes are, but if they're high impact (jumping) and aggressive (hitting), I'd recommend you trying something else. Exercises like the elliptical trainer, low impact aerobics, or deep water running (a very tough exercise when you've got the right form!) are better choices.

Pregnancy is not the time to try and improve your fitness level - rather it's the time to maintain your existing level as best you can (remember, you're now working for two!).

Subscriber Question #5:
"Is it possible to tone my lower body while I'm pregnant?"

My Opinion:
YES! Some great exercises that you can do now to tone your lower body are lunges, inner thigh squeezes, leg extensions, and bum raises off the ball.
Now you're not going to be doing intense legwork, so you probably won't see drastic results. But every little bit helps and it WILL make you feel a whole lot better about the way you look (trust me!).

I would however be cautious about other pregnancy exercises - for example, avoid anything that puts pressure on your back, like the leg press machine!

International Baby Adoption

2:13 PM 0 Comments
If you are considering an international baby adoption, then you will need to also find a reputable agency to help guide you through the paperwork and process. In addition, when some families are hoping for a baby adoption, they employ the help of an attorney.

International adoptions are often fast and can be completed in as little 10 to 14 months from the time of application. The majority of children who are eligible for adoption are newborns, who were usually separated from their birth mother within a few days after birth. At that time, they are placed in foster care until the adoption process is complete. In addition to newborn infants, there are also sometimes older children who are seeking adoption.

Most baby adoption agencies, who help to handle international adoptions, will consider an application from either a married couple or a single woman, who is an adult and has completed a successful home study. In addition, most adoptions are given to individuals and/or families who are both emotionally and financially stable. The number of current children that an individual has, if any, is not usually a deciding factor when it comes to international baby adoption.

As a general rule, once the adoption process is finalized, the parent(s) is required to travel to their new child’s country in order to pick them up. This generally takes 2 to 3 days before the paperwork is finalized and the child is allowed to exit the country. The fee for baby adoption will vary from one country to the next and will largely depend on each’s policy.

Due to strict immigration laws and all of the paperwork involved, individuals considering an international baby adoption should consult a local attorney. Some families have also consulted with international attornies with great success. This will help to ensure that all paperwork and other required procedures are done properly in order to avoid delays with the baby adoption and the return home. The attorney will often be required to accompany the adopting family to pick up the child and to finalize the details of the adoption. This will help protect the rights of the new parent(s) and the child as well.

All children who are adopted abroad, and have been in the custody of the adoptive family for a period of less than two years, are required to possess U.S. immigrant orphan petitions and orphan visas before entering the United States. This process typically requires that the adoptive parent(s) be found suitable for adoption, an investigation into the status of the child be completed and finalization of the visa application.

Importance of health reproductive woman

2:11 PM 0 Comments
A healthy life always leads to happiness and prosperity.  Health is the weapon that keeps a human going on in his regular activities and functions. Reproductive health is an important part of general health that needs universal concern. It is very important for women during their reproductive years because health many reproductive health related problems arise during this period. Any failures in living a healthy reproductive life shall lead to different sexual diseases and other deficiencies that could also cause a risk to the life of a woman.

Why Health reproductive woman?
Women reproductive health is important because women have many reproductive health problems that have added up in the number of maternal mortality rate.  Women have great complications during pregnancy and childbirth. They are more open to risks while preventing unintended pregnancies, unsafe abortions, reproductive tract infections and burden of contraception.

What are important health factors?
There are situations where a woman bears the risk of infertility, contraception and many other infections caused through sexual intercourse and practices.  Fertility is the stage where a woman conceives after fertilization of a male sperm and female ova. Infertility is whereby a woman is unable to conceive as ovulation fails even after a sexual intercourse. Irregular menstrual periods or absence of menstrual cycles among women causes such ovulatory dysfunctions.

What are sexually transmitted diseases?

How To Lose The Baby Weight Without Starving Yourself

2:06 PM 0 Comments
Are you currently pregnant and discouraged about getting back into shape after having your baby? Or maybe you're a new Mom who is exhausted and getting to the gym is the last thing on your mind! Either way, I hope the following tips help you lose that baby weight.

I don't have any fancy initials behind my name, I'm just a Mom of 4 kids. I've been able to get into my favorite Gap jeans fairly quickly after my babies, and I've observed that women who do the same have a few things in common. Here are my tips for losing the weight postpartum:

1) Don't use pregnancy as an excuse to binge.
Pregnancy is the time to get strict about nutrition. Eating junk food will produce a small baby and a big Momma. Make your pregnancy a time to turn over a new leaf if you are a junk food junkie. You'll be developing habits that will serve you well as you teach your children about nutrition.

At the same time, don't obsess about weight gain. I gained between 35-50 pounds for each of my pregnancies, and still didn't have trouble getting back into my old clothes within a few months postpartum. Focus on good nutrition, stay as active as you can, and you won't go wrong.

2) Breastfeed your baby.
Breastfeeding burns around 500-700 calories a day. Wow- that's not bad for sitting around relaxing on the couch! Your body puts on 9 pounds during your pregnancy specifically for the purpose of lactation. The extra weight is laid down on your thighs to make sure you will have enough fat to burn to make milk for baby. Call it "famine insurance" if you will. If you don't breastfeed, guess what? That 9 pounds stays.

Several studies show that nursing Moms return to their prepregnancy weight more quickly. Nursing also helps your uterus contract back to its prepregnancy size faster. Plus you'll have a nicer decolletage to boot!

3) Talk a walk every day
Walking is probably the perfect exercise for new Moms. It's not stressful on your joints (which are still loosey-goosey from the pregnancy hormones for a while after you give birth). It's free and doesn't require a babysitter or any special equipment. It gets you out in the sun, which helps regulates your sleep/wake cycle, causing you and baby to sleep better at night and possibly helping prevent postpartum depression. And you can do it with a friend. If you're sleep deprived and can't bear the thoughts of exercise, call up a buddy and make a date with her to walk several mornings a week. Then you can treat yourselves to Starbucks and gossip afterwards.

4) "Wear" your baby
In addition to the many other benefits, using a baby sling or other soft cloth carrier and wearing your baby will burn lots of calories during the day as you do your household chores or care for other children. It also makes it easier for you to be active. You'll be less tempted to sit around. Throwing on a sling and sitting baby inside it is much easier than lugging out and setting up a heavy stroller.

5) Curb those cravings
Postpartum Moms have cravings for several reasons. One is because serotonin levels are dropping, leading to cravings for sugar. Substitute snacking with another, health producing activity, like getting together with your buddy and going for a walk.

Another cause of cravings may be low blood sugar due to inadequate nutrition (eating too infrequently or eating too much refined sugar). Keep your blood sugar in control by eating frequent small meals that are balanced in nutrients. Keep snacks handy that you can grab quickly before you feed the baby. You need fats, protein and complex carbohydrates. Things like dried fruit and nuts, granola, full fat yogurt (buy the plain kind and mix in all-fruit jelly. Most yogurt has way too much sugar otherwise), kefir, vegetables sliced ahead of time and served with dips, hummus, whole grain pita bread, fruit smoothies, etc will keep your blood sugar constant and provide good nutrition. And keep taking your prenatal multivitamin to help prevent deficiencies that may cause cravings.

6) Avoid excessive caffeine
Drinking too much caffeine leads to insulin surges which cause your blood sugar to drop. When this happens most people head straight for the refined carbs to quicky bring their blood sugar back up. That's no good.

7) Get enough rest
Easier said than done for a new Mom, to be sure! But if at all possible, nap with your baby. When you are terribly sleep deprived, you tend to gain weight. Consider bringing baby to bed with you if you are nursing. You will sleep better, baby will sleep better, and Daddy will sleep better (making it more likely that he will take baby for a walk and let you nap some afternoons!). Women all over the world have been doing it for thousands of years. As long as you are not morbidly obese, using sleeping pills or inebriated, cosleeping is safe.

8) Focus on good nutrition
This is also a challenge for a new, stressed out Mom. Check out books like "The One Armed Cook" for ideas on how to prepare healthy meals with a baby in arms. Visit a La Leche League meeting and ask other Moms how they manage to eat well with kids in the kitchen. Some Moms who were former junk food junkies have done well with the following technique. Before feeding themselves a particular food, they ask: "Would I feed this to my baby?" If the answer is no, they don't eat it.

9) And lastly, give it time
Be realistic- don't expect yourself to be back into your favorite jeans within a few weeks of delivery. In the meantime, appreciate your new, womanly curves (especially the cleavage that breastfeeding gives you!). I noticed that my clothing style changes somewhat after I have a baby. My normal tailored, classic look gives way to a soft, feminine style that flatters my postpartum body more.

Rejoice in your body that can do such awesome things as give birth and nourish a new life! Likely, your partner is much more forgiving of your changing body than you are. Most of all, enjoy your new baby!

How Much Weight Should You Gain During Pregnancy?

2:03 PM 0 Comments
If you're pregnant, you're very likely concerned about the amount of weight you're gaining, the effect it has on your body, even how difficult it will be to take off after your pregnancy. Your OB/GYN or midwife is your best source of advice about healthy weight gain during pregnancy, but there are general guidelines.

Depending on your weight at the start of your pregnancy, your doctor may tell you that a healthy weight gain for you is anywhere between 15 and 40 pounds. If you're underweight to start (a BMI of less than 18.5), 25 to 40 pounds is a reasonable weight gain during pregnancy. If you're overweight, he or she may suggest you stick closer to 15 to 25 pounds. Of that weight, 6 to 8 pounds of it is the baby. The rest is amniotic fluid, extra tissue and blood to nourish the baby (including the placenta), and the increased size of your breasts and placenta. You'll lose as much as 15 pounds of it WITH the birth (amniotic fluid, placenta and baby).

Any doctor will tell you that pregnancy is NOT the time to go on a diet. Your body AND your baby need the nutrients of an adequate, balanced diet to keep you both healthy. This doesn't mean that you should throw all your restraint to the winds and 'eat for two', though. Your body needs approximately an extra 300 calories a day to build a healthy baby. Those 300 calories should come from the same healthy variety of foods that your normal diet gives you. (You were eating a healthy, balanced diet, weren't you? If not, pregnancy is a great time to start.)

You can expect to gain weight along a fairly predictable pattern. In the first three months, you'll gain 2-4 pounds altogether. During the second trimester, you can expect to gain between 3-4 pounds a month (about a pound per week). During the last three months, you'll gain an additional 8-10 pounds. Your doctor or midwife will weigh you regularly, and may express concern over a deviation from this pattern. A sudden sharp weight gain, for instance, can indicate pre-eclampsia or gestational diabetes.

If your doctor advises you to try to limit your weight gain during your pregnancy, be sure to choose a healthy diet that provides all the necessary daily requirements for vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. Remember that a 'diet' during pregnancy isn't meant to help you LOSE weight, but rather to limit the amount of weight gained.

Regular exercise is also good for both you and your baby. You can maintain most of your daily activities, and if regular workouts were a part of your daily routine, then by all means keep them up. You'll feel better, and your body will be less likely to protest the extra weight with aches and pains. Do keep in mind that exercise during pregnancy shouldn't be overly strenuous, and that you should avoid activities with a risk of falling or injury. Also remember that your center of balance is different - it may feel awkward to do the things you usually do while you're carrying your little bundle of joy.

For specifics with regard to your own situation, speak with your doctor or midwife. If you're concerned about gaining weight, or feel that you're gaining too much, you can ask for a consultation with a nutritionist to help you design a healthy eating plan that will make sure the baby is well-nourished, and your concerns about your weight are met.

How Changing Your Diet Can Influence The Sex Of Your Baby

1:59 PM 0 Comments
Boy or girl, boy or girl…. Which is it? Many parents enjoy the ups and downs of trying to guess the gender game when it comes to a baby.

For others selecting the sex of their baby is serious business. Believe it or not, there are scientifically grounded strategies for influencing the sex of your baby one way vs. another. No, this isn’t magic it’s just body chemistry.

Your diet can actually influence the pH of your body, making your vaginal secretions either alkaline or acidic, which can influence your chances for having a boy or girl.

Now, that said, changing your diet alone will not guarantee that you have a boy or a girl. But it can turn the tide in your favor if you are anxious for one sex or another.

Girl Baby Diet

You should eat foods rich in calcium and magnesium.
Here are some dietary suggestions for mom’s who want to conceive a girl baby:
  •  Eggs
  •  Milk or Milk Products
  •  Salt Free Food
  •  Ice Cream
  •  Tangerines
  •  Grapefruit
  •  Apples
  •  Lettuce
  •  Carrots/Veggies
Boy Baby Diet
You should eat foods rich in sodium and potassium.
  •  Salted meat products
  •  Fish
  •  Sausage
  •  Rice
  •  Potatoes
  •  Beans
  •  Peaches

Of course it is not guaranteed that you will have a boy or girl simply by changing your diet. Other things you can do to influence the gender of your baby is to time intercourse. Research suggests that timing intercourse a few days before ovulation will result in a girl, whereas timing intercourse the day of or day before ovulation is more likely to result in a boy. This is because the male Y-sperms are considered weaker and will die off before you ovulate if you have intercourse earlier in your cycle. There are other studies that suggest that men who wear tighter underwear or keep their scrotum warmer are more likely to have girl babies, because the boy’s Y-sperm need a cooler temperature to survive.

Ultimately there are no guarantees when it comes to choosing the gender of your baby. There are some scientific methods that involve ‘spinning’ sperm, but many of these are still under research and can be quite expensive.

No matter what method you choose, remember to have fun. The end result of your efforts is a beautiful baby regardless of their sex.

Summary:
Boy or girl, boy or girl…. Which is it? Many parents enjoy the ups and downs of trying to guess the gender game when it comes to a baby.

For others selecting the sex of their baby is serious business. Believe it or not, there are scientifically grounded strategies for influencing the sex of your baby one way vs. another. No, this isn’t magic it’s just body chemistry.

Your diet can actually influence the pH of your body, making your vaginal secretions either alkaline o...

Honey, I Am Not Pregnant, We Will Have To Keep Trying

1:55 PM 0 Comments
Many couples have children as soon as they look at each other in a certain way, or so it seems. Lots of couples do have problems conceiving children. There are several possible reasons for this and several possible solutions to the problem.

Gone are the days of Britain's Henry VIII who chopped off his wives' heads if they failed to produce a child within a year. Nowadays people realize that this is a difficulty that is a shared one. If specialists find that one of the partners' reproductive system is not working as it should then that person will need substantial support from their partner.

Most men do not have the Henry VII approach. Most will be willing to have tests done to determine a sperm count and to check on the activity of the sperm. This is usually the first step in determining the reason for lack of conception of a child because production of the sperm sample is very simple and certainly does not require invasive surgery.

Sperm counts can sometimes be increased by hormone supplements. Be aware that increasing testosterone levels will also cause increased aggressiveness in social situations. I knew a guy once in this situation and all his workmates breathed a sigh of relief when he announced his wife was pregnant.

Investigating the female reproductive system is much more complicated. That's why there are gynaecologists for women and no equivalent for men. I am not going to go into the many vagaries of the menstrual cycle here. Following the advice of a gynaecologist will help many women to become pregnant.

There are other alternatives even after the specialist's advice hasn't worked. Test-tube babies are very common. I used to teach a teenager who was the UK's first test-tube baby, she was just like every other girl in the class.

Eggs are removed from the woman's ovaries and fertilized with her partner's sperm, usually in flat petri dishes, rather than test-tubes. One of the fertilized eggs is then placed inside the woman's uterus, where it will hopefully attach itself and develop normally. The rest of the fertilized eggs may be frozen, in case of failure the first time.

If the man's sperm count or activity cannot be raised the couple could have a baby using sperm from a donor. Couples may also find a surrogate mother, either to host the fertilized egg, or to provide the egg to be fertilized by the male partner's sperm.

In short there are many routes out of this common predicament that a loving couple can use to have the children they have set their hearts on.

Going Back To Work When You’re Nursing

12:26 PM 0 Comments
If you’re planning to return to work after your baby is born, you may be concerned about managing both effectively. It is a time consuming choice, but many women do continue nursing even after they go back to work. And, in spite of the amount of time and dedication it requires, most women who have tried it, have been happy that they did. Here are some tips to help you manage the two successfully.

First, decide how you’re going to feed baby while you’re away. Some women have the caretaker feed the baby formula; others express breast milk for use while they are away. Either way, you’ll need to get your baby used to drinking from a bottle. At about six weeks old, introduce at least one bottle a day, filled with breast milk or formula, depending upon which you plan to use when you go back to work, at a time when you will be working later. Also, be sure to have someone else feed the bottle to the baby sometimes. This should help your baby get ready for the new routine.

Once you return to work, you’ll need to express milk at work for feeding to your baby the next day, if you plan to supplement with breast milk instead of formula. Be sure to figure out in advance where you’ll be able to nurse. Fortunately, more and more workplaces are creating private areas for nursing mothers. It’s also wise to freeze some breast milk before you go back to work, just in case you have a day at work that is so harried that you find yourself unable to nurse.

When you return to work, be prepared for some adjustment time for you and the baby. If possible, go back part time at first, to make this adjustment easier for both of you. And, if you can wait until baby is sixteen weeks old to go back, the adjustment to the feeding change will be even easier, because the breastfeeding routine will be better established.

There are many good reasons for continuing to breastfeed after returning to work. In addition to your baby’s continued nutritional benefit, you may also find that it’s easier to return to work knowing that you still have the close breastfeeding bond in the morning and evening. Take it slow, work out the kinks, and you and baby should be well on your way to a very rewarding situation.

Fertility And Your Fertile Soil

12:24 PM 0 Comments
So just what are the ingredients for the fertile soil in a woman’s body that supports healthy pregnancy and birth? This is an important question for a woman trying to conceive. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has some solid contribution on the topic…First, a woman’s blood must be ample, nutritionally and hormonally healthy, and flowing unimpeded throughout the body and, in particular, the uterus. Second, her Chi needs to be flowing smoothly in all her organs, muscles and channels (including the uterus). Third, her mental and emotional energy system needs to be balanced in such a way that a woman trying to conceive, is enhancing her overall health versus burdening her overall health.

Whew, that’s a mouthful. And what does it all mean? Well, let’s look at each piece individually.

Ample, nutritionally and hormonally healthy as well as, Flowing Unimpeded throughout the body Blood: In Chinese Medicine we refill our tank daily with energy or life force, via our food, drink and breath. We must sleep at night in order to repair, rebuild, regenerate and rejuvenate our entire system. This repair work requires a foundation of nourishment that we supply ourselves each day.

One of our energy systems in Chinese Medicine, The Earth System which includes the organs Spleen/Pancreas and Stomach, is responsible for receiving the food and drink we ingest, breaking it down into usable nourishment for the blood (called transformation in TCM), and then transporting nutrients, via the blood, to our entire body. Optimal function of our body can only be as good as the quality and quantity of the food we eat. Quality refers to how healthy, vital and nutrient-rich the food we eat is. Quantity refers to the eating of food in proper portions. If we eat too little, we become deficient in nutrients. If we eat too much, our system becomes burdened in having to deal with the excess that cannot be transported or is unusable, for example excess sugar. If either deprivation of necessary nutrients, or over-burden becomes the norm, our system suffers greatly.

If deprived or over-burdened, at night, during rebuilding and regenerating, our system is mostly trying to keep up with robbing “Peter to pay Paul,” or figuring out what to do with the excess and repairing the breakdown in our system from the excess. This is quite a wasteful expenditure of our energy when we need our energy available each day and night for the important job of keeping our organs, tissues, hormones, and cells operating healthfully.

If misuse of our energy goes on over time, our soil may become infertile. We absolutely need healthy blood on a regular basis and we need this rich, nourished blood flowing throughout the uterus. When our blood becomes tired, lacks oxygen, or is nutritionally deficient, it can become sluggish, slow down and even stagnate. This means our smooth flow of blood is compromised, thus compromising fertility.

Enough Chi flowing smoothly in all organs, muscles and channels (including the uterus): Chi is a Chinese word for life force, or energy, or molecular energy. It is what we are made of in that, if we have no Chi, we have no life force. Simple stated, when we are born we have a full tank of Chi, and when the tank is empty, we die. While alive and during the reproductive years, it makes sense that in order to create a new life inside of you, you must have a reasonable life force yourself.  If you don’t have enough Chi or life force in your own system, where do you think the Chi will come from to create a new life for 9 mos.?  Nature, and infinite wisdom, just knows that if a woman’s Chi tank is too low, then reproduction falls below the line of possibility. It’s a no-brainer, in that, for a fetus to grow it needs a certain amount of Chi and blood.

Mental and emotional energy systems need to be balanced in such a way that a woman trying to conceive, is enhancing her overall health versus burdening her overall health: Thoughts and emotions are as much Chi as your elbow or liver is. They are just a more subtle form of Chi. Much like the wind, in that, we don’t “see” wind, but it exists because we see the effects of wind even though it is invisible. This more subtle form of Chi, like our thoughts and emotions, are just as important as the food we eat. Every time we think a thought or have an emotion, there is literally a chemical reaction in our body. To put it in simple terms, the by-product of these chemical reactions are either toxic and thus, burdensome to our system; or the by-product of these chemical reactions align with optimal functioning of our system.

When I teach a woman to observe herself in this more subtle form of Chi, it is often surprising to her that she is much more plagued with thoughts of fear, worry, or depression, in relation to her fertility, than she realized consciously. Some of it she was aware of, but the extent of it is more the eye-opener. The chemical by-product of these thoughts and emotions over a prolonged period of time, become burdensome to the system, contributing to a decreased flow of Chi and Blood. It requires practice to become aware, and then become intentional about our choice of thoughts.

“Ingredients,” or choices, are either enhancing or inhibiting our fertile soil. Either our fertility switch is ‘on’ or ‘off.’  No woman purposely turns her fertility switch off, but, unknowingly, she could be making choices, day after day, that are preventing optimal and fertile soil. Start where you’re at and begin making the best choices you can in order to fertilize your soil in such a way that pregnancy and healthy birth are a natural outcome.

Female Infertility – A reason to worry

11:01 PM 0 Comments
Female infertility is a growing problem which has to be rooted out from the society. It means the disability to conceive or produce offspring. The main cause for infertility is poor reproductive system that impairs the ability of the body to perform necessary functions of reproduction.

It affects nearly 5.3 million people in the United States mainly of the people of reproductive age. It could be treated with therapies such as medication or surgery. There are two types of infertility:
  1.  Hypo fertile couples that face trouble to conceive and their fertility is not the ideal and have problems with timing but they can conceive with the help of special treatment. Examples are any man having low sperm count and woman having endometriosis.
  2.  Sterile Couples are not able to conceive without the help of any medical or surgical treatment. For example, man has not enough sperm to fertilize the ova or the woman has blocked fallopian tubes.
Reasons for female infertility
Factors that contribute to infertility are malfunctioning of the reproductive system or inability to release a healthy ovum in the fallopian tube. Other reasons such as endometriosis, infection or blocked tubes also lead to infertility.
Another important factor is the inability of the sperm to enter the mucus that lines cervical canal leading to the uterus. Aging among woman also leads to infertility because they are more likely to conceive in their early twenties thereafter fertility declines until the age of 35.

How can you improve your chances to conceive?
There are some basic facts which could help you in increasing your chances for fertility.
  1.  The best time for fertilization is ovulation that occurs in mid to late morning usually 12 to 16 days before the start of next menstrual cycles.
  2.  The best time to have intercourse is a day or evening before the ovulation takes place as such the sperm will be readily waiting in the fallopian tube when the ova or egg arrives.
  3.  The missionary position that is woman on her back and man on top usually is the best position for the uterus to receive sperm. But this case may vary in some situations so it is better that you consult your personal doctor.
  4. If you lie still for about 10 minutes after the intercourse so that the sperm that has entered the vagina has time enough to reach through the cervix.
  5.  Because of the fact that sperm can live in the fallopian tubes for 2 or 3 days it could be possible to have intercourse one day, ovulate next day and conceive on the third day.
  6.  To have intercourse thrice during a week of ovulation shall raise the odd that the sperm is present in the fallopian tubes when ovulation takes place.
  7.  Fertility could be effected once you stop taking oral contraceptive pills or injectable hormones but the effect shall wear off by time.

Feeling Frisky? Herbs For Fertility

10:52 PM 0 Comments
For thousands of years knowledge of the herbs and wild plants that could increase fertility were the secrets of the village wise women. But after the holocaust against European Wise Women (the "burning times") and the virtual extermination of Native American medicine women, this knowledge virtually disappeared. In fact, many people erroneously believe that "primitive people" had no means of controlling the likelihood of pregnancy. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Many common plants can be used to influence fertility, including red clover, partridge berry, liferoot, wild carrot, and wild yam. Some of these grow wild, others are easy to cultivate, and, with the exception of wild carrot, all are also readily available at health food stores.

One of the most cherished of the fertility-increasing plants is red clover (Trifolium pratense). Common in fields and along roadsides, it has bright pink (not really red) blossoms from mid-summer into the chilly days of fall. A favorite flower of the honeybees, the tops (blossoms and appending leaves) are harvested on bright sunny days and eaten as is, or dried for medicinal use. The raw blossoms are delicious in salads and nutritious when cooked with grains such as rice or millet.

To make a fertility-enhancing infusion, I take one ounce by weight of the dried blossoms (fresh won't work for this application) and put them in a quart size canning jar. I fill the jar with boiling water, screw on a tight lid, and let it steep at room temperature overnight (or for at least four hours). Dozens of women have told me that they had successful pregnancies after drinking a cup or more (up to four cups) a day of red clover infusion.

It is especially helpful if there is scarring of the fallopian tubes, irregular menses, abnormal cells in the reproductive tract, or "unexplained" infertility. It may take several months for the full effect of this herb to come on and pregnancy may not occur until you have used it for a year or two. You can improve the taste by including some dried peppermint (a spoonful or two) along with the dried clover blossoms when making your infusion. Treat the father of the child-to-be to some red clover infusion too!

That little evergreen creeper that carpets some parts of the woods around your house is partridge berry (Mitchella repens), also known as squaw weed, supposedly because of its ability to enhance fertility. (My teacher Twylah Nitsch, grandmother of the Seneca Wolf clan, says that "squaw" is a slang term meaning "schmuck" or, in the proper term, "penis," and therefore should not be used in denoting a plant meant to be used by women.) Keep an eye out this spring and see if you can catch Mitchella blooming. Then you'll see why she's sometimes called "twin flower."

Interestingly, when the paired flowers fall off, they leave behind but one berry to ripen. (The shiny red berries you've noticed in the forest winter or spring. Yes, they are safe to eat, but leave some for the partridges.) The symbolism of two flowers forming one berry is certainly a suitable icon for fertility. I make a medicinal vinegar by filling a small jar with the fresh leaves, adding apple cider vinegar until the jar is full again. A piece of waxed paper held in place with a rubber band and a label (including date) completes the preparation, which must sit at room temperature for six weeks before use. I enjoy up to a tablespoonful of the vinegar on my salads or in my beans.

By mid- to late-May, the yellow blossoms of liferoot (Senecio aureus) enliven my swamp (in upstate New York) and the neighboring roads where there is adequate water and rich soil. A powerful medicine resides in all parts of this lovely wildflower. As the root has a dangerous reputation, I restrict myself to using only the flowers and leaves, which I harvest in bloom, and quickly tincture. (For instructions for making your own tinctures, please see any of my books.) Small doses of this tincture (3-8 drops a day), taken at least 14 days out of the month, will regulate hormone production, increase libido, normalize the menses, relieve menstrual pain, and improve fertility. The closely related Senecia jacobea and Senecio vulgaris can also be used.

Wild carrot (Daucus carota), better known as Queen Anne's lace, is such a common roadside plant that most people are amazed to learn that it is a proven anti-fertility herb. In addition to being the wild cousin of carrot, it is related to parsley, dill, caraway, anise, celery, cumin, and a (now extinct) plant whose seeds were the birth-control of choice for many a classical Greek or Roman woman.

The aromatic seeds of wild carrot are collected in the fall and eaten (a heaping teaspoonful a day) to prevent the implantation of a fertilized egg. In one small study the effectiveness rate after thirteen months of use was 99%. As modern scientific medicine reports that one-third of all fertilized eggs are passed out of the body without implanting in the uterus, this method of birth control seems in complete agreement with nature.

Of the hundreds of women currently using this anti-fertility agent, I have heard virtually no reports of any side-effects. Note that many books caution you to beware the danger of confusing poison hemlock and wild carrot. Poison hemlock is rather scarce in our area, and, at any rate, does not smell or taste of carrot (as does Queen Anne's lace), so I believe this warning to be a red herring. In addition, wild carrot leaves have small hairs on them, while the leaves of poison hemlock are smooth.

Another anti-fertility herb that has been tested by small groups of modern women is wild yam (Dioscorea villosa). Since birth-control pills were originally made from this plant, it is not at all surprising that it has the effect of blocking conception when taken daily in rather large doses: either a cup of tea or two capsules taken three times a day.

Does it have detrimental effects? Current studies are too small to show any, but there is a possibility that there could be. Interestingly enough, if wild yam is taken in small doses (a cup of tea or 10-20 drops of the tincture daily from onset of menses until mid-period) it increases fertility! In either case, the effect seems to be triggered by the large amount of hormone-like substances found in this root. When taken daily, these substances may be converted into progesterone, thus decreasing the possibility of conception. When taken for the two weeks preceding ovulation, these substances may be converted into LH and FSH, hormones that are needed to make the egg ready to be fertilized.

Other common weeds and garden plants of our area that have been used to increase or decrease fertility include stinging nettle, oatstraw, pennyroyal, Jack-in-the-pulpit, rue, and parsley.

The earth is full of wonders, and green magic abounds. As more and more women remember that they are wise women, more of the wonders and the magic will be revealed. May your days be filled with many green blessings.

10:43 PM 0 Comments
Menstruation is a common occurrence in every woman’s life. Unwanted pain and cramps are part and parcel of this occurrence. It is like meeting a guest you do not want to see in your life. These cramps may not stay for long. But the little time it stays, surely leaves an impact. If this pain continues for more than 48 hours it is better to consult a doctor. Otherwise, you can use some of these measures to save yourself from the recurring nightmare.

     - Herbal home remedies to treat Menstrual Cramps problem

Exercising is one of the easiest ways to ward off this problem. Walking helps in reducing menstrual cramps because it improves circulation of pelvic organs. While walking, do not strain yourself; walk in a relaxed fashion by moving your arms and hips freely.

A warm bath or a heating pad may just do the trick. Keep the heating pad on the small of your back. It relaxes the muscle spasms and also alleviates cramping pain.

If you are planning to move out in cold weather, see to it, that you are wearing a warm jacket that covers your hips. The heat of the jacket relaxes your pelvic muscles by keep it warm.

Gingerroot tea can relieve menstrual cramps. Simmer handful gingerroot, cut in slices for 15 minutes. Let it cool to drink later.

Calcium helps to prevent menstrual cramps as it maintains the normal muscle tone. During menses muscles that lack calcium tend to become hyperactive causing cramps. Therefore increasing calcium helps in reducing menstrual cramps. Try to consume 800 milligrams a day which nearly equals three cups of milk.

Magnesium increases body's calcium absorption capacity, therefore reducing menstrual cramps. Foods that possess properties are beans, whole grains such as buckwheat and whole wheat flour, salmon, shrimp, tofu, vegetables and nuts.

Holistic and relaxation techniques like acupuncture may help in clearing menstrual problems.

Cramp bark (Viburnum opulus) is one of the most ancient and useful herbs used to treat menstrual cramps. It helps in easing severe cramps that causes nausea, vomiting and sweaty chills.

Black cohosh is another ancient medicine used for relieving menstrual cramps. It can be taken in several forms including crude plant, dried root, or rhizome, or as a solid, dry powdered extract. The recommended amount is 20-40 mg twice per day and to be continued for six months.

Blue cohosh is completely different from black cohosh. This too, has been used traditionally to ease painful menstrual periods. Generally taken in tincture form one should not drink more than 1-2 ml three times a day. Once you become pregnant, stop using this herb, as it may cause heart problems in your child.

False unicorn is mostly taken as a tincture, 2-5ml three times per day. You can consume dried root 1-2 grams thrice daily. It is usually taken with other herbs that help female reproductive organs.

Have a tablespoon of Aloe Vera gel with two pinches of black pepper thrice a day. This will help too.

Do Not Let Stretch Marks Invade Your Body

10:40 PM 0 Comments
Stretch marks are lines on the skin, which usually happens when the skin is stretch a lot over a short period. This can be seen especially during pregnancy. The medical term for stretch mark is stria.

Stretch marks starts as red lines on the skin that are slightly lifted. The color of the stretch marks depend on the color of the skin of the person has it. They may sometimes look pink, reddish brown or dark brown.

They are usually similar in lines. The appearance of the skin is lean and grey and sometime appears like a scar. They are usually pale and happen to be less obvious.

Stretch marks can come out anywhere on skin that has been stiffed. They normally take place on parts of the skin where fat is stocked, like the tummy, breasts, thighs and buttocks.

It is a wrong notion that only woman can have stretch marks since they are the only ones capable of conceiving. Even men can have stretch marks themselves.

What causes stretch marks is that when the skin is suddenly stretched. The outer layer of the skin is not really affected by this, but the dermis becomes thinner and develops insignificant tears.

There is an appearance of stretch marks in the body because of the following conditions:
  1. Pregnancy – Almost 90 percent of women who got pregnant develop stretch mark on the areas of tummy, legs or thighs, breast and shoulders. Normally, this stretch mark appears on the sixth or seventh month of pregnancy.
  2. Development of adolescence – Boys often get stretch marks on their shoulder while girls get them on their hips, thighs and breast since they tend to grow quickly.

Women have a wider role in the process of reproduction and as such during those tough months it becomes necessary that she is being given the utmost care. Because the health of the future offspring depends upon the health of the mother, you should quite be aware of the do’s and don’ts during this period.

Tips for a healthy dietary plan
A balanced diet is the main rule for healthy eating when you are expecting that means your diet should include plenty of fruits, vegetables, proteins, grains and hydrating fluids. There are some food habits that could be harmful for your child and that’s the only part you should avoid.
Things you should avoid among your eating habits
  1.  If you love junk food it could give some extra calories without the nutritional benefits of healthy food and therefore try to curb it. Have an apple instead of doughnut.
  2. You should totally avoid alcohol and caffeine because these avoid the absorption of two important nutrients (folic acid and iron) that are important during pregnancy and could effect the fetus with long term developmental effects.
  3.  A healthy diet should have around 20 percent of fat during pregnancy and all food has some proportion of fats. Fruits have 3 to 14 percent of fat, grains have 3 to 10 percent of fats, and veggies have 1 to 10 percent of fats as such you cant avoid fats totally but you don’t need enough fat either.
  4.  Many of the food that we take are full of preservatives, colorings, flavor enhancers and also hormones and antibiotics. These may help in making the taste of the food better but also produce few chemical residues and additives out of which most are safe but needs to be avoided. Such additives include Monosodium glutamate (MSG), a flavor enhancer that could lead to headaches and stomach upsets. Food colorings that are unsafe are blue 1, blue 2, green 3, red 3 and yellow 6. Olestra or Olean, Saccharin, red meat with much fat should also be avoided.
  5. You should take pasteurized food that removes bacteria form food and is healthy during pregnancy.  Some common foods that are not pasteurized include ciders and fresh pressed juices where you should check the labeling to ensure that they are pasteurized. Some bottled smoothies and yogurt drinks, raw milk cheeses are not pasteurized and could be harmful during pregnancy.
  6.  Sea food such as fish is very healthy but you should avoid fishes such as shellfish like oysters that may contain bacteria. Swordfish, shark, tilefish may contain high levels of methyl mercury and could harm the developing fetus. Self caught fishes should be checked if they contain any contaminants and tropical fishes like grouper, and amberjack may contain some harmful toxins. Seared fishes like sushi and sashimi are out of question here.
  7. Before taking fruits and vegetables you should wash them thoroughly and simply avoid sprouts that may contain bacteria called E.coli.
  8. There is risk in the intake of raw meat and eggs as they may carry illness as such avoid shrimp cocktails, frankfurters, luncheon meats and smoked fish meat during pregnancy.
  9.  You may think that herbals are harmless but even though you need top avoid raspberry tea, co hash, ginseng and green tea that could stimulate the contractions. You can take fruit, ginger or mint teas.
  10. Never think of dieting during pregnancy but to nourish a healthy, growing baby is your responsibility so forget about high carbohydrates, low fat diet or liquid diets and supplements. You should have three balanced meals during a day. Vegetarian food is safe if you take supplements such as vitamin B12, iron, zinc, folic acid, magnesium, calcium and vitamin D.
  11. Avoid poorly packaged or stored foods that could be spoiled or unhygenically packed.  You should keep your food safe and thus always go for eating hot food hot and cold food cold. Don’t take foods where the packing has an expiry date and you have crossed the time limits.  You can use your nose to check if the food smells spoiled and if doubt, chuck it. Never take out frozen foods to thaw on the counter all afternoon but you can put them in the refrigerator in the morning and defrost in the microwave just before cooking. Keep your cooking surfaces clean and use smooth surfaces to cut meat.
Summary:
Proper diet and nutrition during pregnancy accounts a lot leading to a healthy reproductive life and growth of the child.

Conceiving A Baby And Conception Positions

10:21 PM 0 Comments
Conceiving a baby successfully means understanding the best conception positions, your monthly reproductive cycle and your overall health. Conceiving a baby and pregnancy are wonderful events that are complex but very satisfying and exciting. Here are tips on the best conception positions and getting pregnant:
  1.  Know your fertile time - in general, ovulation occurs about 14 days before your next period begins. For women with cycles of 28 days, that could make day #14 your most fertile for getting pregnant (day #1 being the first day that your last period began). If your have a 30-day cycle, day #16 may be the best time to go for it.
  2.  Monitor your basal body temperature - the slight elevations in your body temperature when you awake each day signal your most fertile time. When conceiving a baby is the goal, use a basal thermometer that is accurate enough to detect these slight changes in your body temperature.
  3.  Monitor your cervical mucus - ovulation causes a change in the appearance and consistency of cervical mucus. By checking yourself each day, you'll be able to see the 'egg-white-like' vaginal discharge that indicates ovulation and your most fertile time for conceiving a baby.
  4.  The best of the conception positions is the missionary position - the time-proven 'man-on-top' position works with gravity to encourage semen flow toward the uterus that maximizes the chance of a sperm uniting with the egg, causing conception.
  5.  Use the rear-entry position - another of the conception positions is the 'doggy-style', which allows your partner to deposit semen close to your cervix.
  6.  Use the side-by-side position - again, this position allows your partner's sperm to start their journey as near your cervix as is possible. For all three conception positions mentioned, after ejaculation, you can remain on your back with your legs bent a few minutes to further maximize semen flow toward the uterus.
  7.  Adopt a healthy lifestyle - this is one of the most important tips for conceiving a baby. Healthy living includes a sensible diet, nutritional supplements, adequate quality sleep, managing stress, some exercise and weight management. Another of the conceiving a baby tips is to simply relax and enjoy your partner. Enjoy the closeness you'll experience with someone you truly care about.

And your desire for becoming pregnant and conceiving a baby will have even more importance to you if it means you'll be taking better care of yourself and your partner. Not only does that mean a more healthy you, it also means you'll increase the chances of having a healthier baby. That's the kind of beginning you want to provide that new person that you know is going to be a star.

Common Pregnancy Complications

10:12 PM 1 Comments
Complication during pregnancy is more common than most people think. Even for those who are healthy and have had children before, early pregnancy complications could arise, at no fault to anyone. This article explains some of these complications and what to watch out for.

Early pregnancy complications

When you find you are pregnant, the first thing you must do is go see your obstetrician/gynecologist. They will perform an ultrasound to make sure that your pregnancy is advancing as it should. Regular visits to your OBGYN will prevent early pregnancy complications or at the very least, help identify them at an early stage. The two most common pregnancy complications are:

Ectopic pregnancies

Ectopic pregnancies are one of the most common early complications. Ectopic pregnancies refer to pregnancies in which the egg is fertilized outside the womb so the fetus begins to develop in the ovary or in the fallopian tube. This can be very dangerous not only for the fetus but also for the mother. If surgery is not performed, the tubes could burst and result in internal bleeding and in some cases, even death.

Miscarriages

Complication during pregnancy can lead to miscarriages, another common early pregnancy complication. Sometimes the cervix can open causing heavy bleeding with intense cramping pains. Other times, the baby can die in early pregnancy. When this happens, the mother can either wait for a miscarriage to occur or have a D&C. There are many different complications during pregnancy that can cause this to happen: blood clotting, infection, structural problems, or lifestyle choices such as smoking, alcohol or high caffeine intake.

High risk pregnancy

A pregnancy that is categorized as high risk is one which has a higher chance of complications arising. You may be considered high risk if you are carrying multiple babies, have a long term illness such as diabetes, or are over the age of 35. If you are high risk, you may be asked to visit your obstetrician more regularly as the pregnancy will need to be more closely monitored than usual.

Pregnancy over 35

It is not uncommon for a woman’s fertility to be affected over the age of 30 and once you are pregnant, you must be aware that it is more common for complications to arise. The chances of your child bearing birth defects are significantly higher than those women who are under 30 and miscarriages also become more common in the first trimester of older pregnant women. For those over 35, there will also be an increased risk of diabetes and high blood pressure. Don’t worry, as with today’s technology, almost all these complications can be treated as long as they are spotted early on.

Multiple pregnancies

A multiple pregnancy is one in which there are two or more fetuses. It’s considered to be high risk because with more than one fetus, it has a higher chance of developing complications. Almost half of twins that are born are premature with extremely low birth weights and underdeveloped organs. This makes them very vulnerable and it is not uncommon for only one twin to survive. Twins who share a placenta could result in high amounts of amniotic fluids.

It is important to keep this information regarding early pregnancy complications in mind during pregnancy and to regularly consult your doctor.

Choosing Maternity Bras For Maximum Comfort And Support

9:15 PM 0 Comments
If you are new to pregnancy and breastfeeding, you may be a little overwhelmed with the commitments of motherhood. Although this may feel like unknown territory, it is not as difficult as it may seem. For example, in choosing maternity bras, many of the same factors apply as regular bras. However, there are a few new considerations to keep in mind.

The key to choosing maternity bras is finding something that is comfortable and supportive. Because your breasts grow considerably during pregnancy and breastfeeding, you need something that can hold up to the challenge. If you have relatively small breasts, this will not be as difficult. However, the larger your breasts are, the harder it is to find something that will work effectively.

Typically, maternity bras that have wide straps are more supportive; this applies to shoulder straps as well as the torso band. While most women prefer something that is pretty, it really is more important to get something that works. Luckily, many of the maternity bras on the market today are attractive as well as effective. You just may have to look a little harder to find them. If possible, you should try on a few maternity bras before purchasing. Take into consideration that your body and breasts will continue to grow through pregnancy, that a lot of that weight will drop at birth, and that your breasts will continue to grow when breastfeeding.

Most maternity bras open to allow for breastfeeding. When you try on the bras, you should play with this feature and see how easily you can remove the breast. This may seem unnecessary, but when you are holding a baby with one hand and trying to open the bra with the other, you will understand why this is important! Complicated latches or awkward positioning will be a major hindrance when trying to breastfeed.

There are many places to purchase maternity bras. Many of the stores you are accustomed to shopping at, however, may not carry them. Shop around and visit several retail shops and maternity stores to widen your options. Shopping online is also a convenient option. You may want to check local stores, though to try on some of the brands available.

Although you will want super-supportive maternity bras for day wear, you may also want to consider a more comfortable version for night wear. Most breastfeeding women can not go without a bra, as the weight of the breast may cause them to leak. On the other hand, few women want to wear a restrictive bra all day. Find a looser, more natural bra to sleep in that still allows for easy feeding.

Can You Gender Test Your Unborn Child?

9:13 PM 0 Comments
With only a few drops of your maternal blood you can find out if baby’s sex is male or female. And you can do it as early as five weeks after conception with the newest technology in the area.

The technology has been tested for the last 14 years - and it works! I am amazed that it is possible. When I was pregnant the last time I got the test – which was very easy to understand and perform. The result came within less than 48 hours, and my husband and I was very happy to learn that I was carrying a baby girl. Our two sons were delighted about their baby sister to come. When the baby girl was born, we had made everything ready for her. No worries about getting pink or blue clothes.

The test is done with cutting-edge, patent-pending technology to attain the earliest gender detection with unprecedented sensitivity and unsurpassed accuracy.

The technique traces the amount of active genetic fetal chromosomal DNA in the maternal blood to determine gender. It is proven, well-documented scientific fact that your baby releases its DNA into your blood plasma. In a lab it is possible to determine fetus-originated-specific chromosome sequence detected in the maternal blood stream.

If there is fetus-originated Y-specific chromosome sequence detected in your blood, you are currently carrying at least one baby boy.

If fetus-originated X-specific chromosome sequence is detected in your blood, you are currently carrying at least one baby girl.

If there is a substantial amount fetus-originated Y-specific chromosome sequence detectable in your sample, indicating that you are carrying at least one baby boy and there is a substantial amount of fetus-originated X-specific chromosome sequence detected in your blood, indicating that you are carrying at least one baby girl. Then you are currently carrying at least one baby girl and boy at this time.
